Do you take my insurance?
Trauma Counseling of Florida currently does not participate with most insurance plans. However, if you would like to bill your insurance, we will provide you with a receipt to submit to your insurance company.
How do I find out if I get reimbursement from my insurance?
If you are interested in obtaining reimbursement from your insurance, you may want to consider reaching out to your insurance company to ask the following questions:
Do I have mental health (behavioral health) insurance benefits?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
Do I need approval from my primary care physician?
Do you reimburse for out of network benefits?
What is the reason you don’t accept insurance?
1. Confidentiality:
You should be able to grow and change in a safe environment. When disclosing information to a 3rd party insurance or electronic medical records company (as required by insurance companies), there is increased risk of your information getting out there. If you ever require a federal background check or want to become a pilot for example, a diagnosis can be disclosed through your insurance company. That is why we strive to protect your confidentiality.
2. Diagnosis:
Insurance companies require a diagnosis in order to provide coverage for counseling. We do not believe you should have a mental health diagnosis on your permanent medical record in order to be able to get help for something that may be a transitional issue. It is your right to seek help without being labeled.
3. Treatment process:
When an insurance company is involved, they dictate treatment with little regard for the counselor’s recommendations. They determine the number of sessions, the frequency, and length of sessions. We believe that deciding treatment should be left to you and your clinician. Sometimes you need shorter sessions or longer ones. Perhaps you need sessions twice a week or once per month. We discuss and plan what works best for our clients.
Do you only work with people who have trauma?
No. Our clinicians specialize in the treatment of trauma but also have extensive experience in working with individuals struggling with all sorts of issues; from relationship conflicts, anxiety, grief, or simply going through a rough patch in their lives.
How long does therapy last?
Therapy is a personalized process uniquely catered to an individual’s needs. Some problems can be resolved in only a few sessions while others can take much longer. Some people are satisfied with brief treatments and conclude their sessions once the presenting issue has subsided. While some people choose to stay in therapy long after the original concerns have resolved because they find it valuable. It is important to remember that participation in therapy is completely voluntary and you are free to end your sessions at any time. Factors affecting the length of treatment include: goals for therapy, motivation, severity and history of problems, current stressors, and other influences such as external support system. At the onset it is important to discuss what your goals are and what you expect out of care. This can help you avoid an unhelpful psychotherapy experience.
What is your cancellation policy?
Since our therapists are busy and have limited availability, if you cancel your appointment less than 24 hours before it is scheduled to take place or fail to show for your appointment, you will be charged the entire cost of your session.
