What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a physiological therapy technique that assists the brain to resume its natural healing process and effectively remove the emotional, physical, or psychological distress caused by trauma. EMDR is extensively researched and proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

Who Can Benefit from EMDR?

Though EMDR therapy is well known as a reliable way of addressing trauma, grief, and PTSD, these days EMDR therapy is also widely accepted as effective for the treatment of various different issues including:

  • Negative Cognitions

  • Poor Self-Esteem

  • Anxiety

  • Stress

  • Panic Attacks

  • Phobias

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

  • Depression

  • Eating Disorders

  • Abuse

Can EMDR Be Done Online?

Yes! Thanks to technological advancements, EMDR can now be done safely and effectively right form the comfort of your own home. At Trauma Counseling of Florida, we are using a telehealth program that combines a virtual light bar with an audio component to provide the bilateral stimulation. Some clients may also choose to participate in self-administered tapping guided by the clinician. Doing EMDR remotely can provide additional benefits as it allows the individual to feel safe while in a familiar environment.
